Robin Gibson

Robin graduated from the University of Natal with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Statistics. He then joined Old Mutual in Pietermaritzburg in an administrative role after which he moved to Protea Life as a broker consultant and then to First National Bank's subsidiary, First Bowring, as a Financial Planning Consultant responsible for the Natal Midlands' branches.

In 1998 he joined the Harvard House Group and is responsible for assisting clients with their holistic financial planning needs.


Belinda Jacobs

Belinda Jacobs’ experience in the financial services industry spans from 1998 and has included various positions from administration to office management. She has been part of the highly skilled professionals at Harvard House’s investment department since June 2012. She has brought on board her sharp technological savvy, high quality advice and integrated wealth management solutions which simplify and enhance the lives of clients.

Belinda is committed to providing the best solutions for clients and ensuring that she and the team stay abreast of changes that may affect clients' financial positions. She enjoys the different components of the ever-changing financial industry, from meeting new people and technical product analysis to the problem solving needed to attain financial security for her clients. She obtained her Certificate in Financial Planning (CFP) from the University of Free State in 2011 and plans to pursue an Advanced Post-Graduate Diploma, specializing in Estate Planning.

An avid reader, Belinda likes to spend the little free time that she has curled up with a good book and coffee at hand.
Belinda lives with her young son in Pietermaritzburg and hopes to travel through Europe experiencing its vibrant and multi-faceted cultures.


Dave Davidson

Dave Davidson, a Durbanite by birth, has been in the Investment and Insurance industry for over 27 years. He moved to the Midlands early on in his career and has gained valuable experience working as a Broker. He joined Harvard House as a Financial Advisor in 2008 where his qualities of attention to detail, good listening skills, and friendly disposition have been recognised and appreciated by his clients.

Dave states that as a member of the investment team for the Group, he enjoys the fact that he is effectively supported by a great administration team and investment products specialists whose teamwork and professionalism assist advisors to provide above par customer service. A problem solver by heart, he focuses on reviewing and analysing client information and preparing plans best suited to clients’ specific needs.

Dave undertook and passed his Registered Persons Examinations (RPE) through the South African Institute of Financial Markets (SAIFM).

Away from the business, he enjoys taking part in sport and spending time with his wife, two sons, and friends over a braai.


Dave Vermaak

For over 40 years David Vermaak has been dedicated to learning about clients' personal goals and, together with his clients, building a financial plan focused on their individual needs. A strong advocate of hands-on, on the job training and mentoring, DaveV, as he is affectionately known, has 33 years of training and development of brokers. He believes immensely that “People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care”. He is pleased to be working for Harvard House who he describes as a company that “…is honest, has integrity and gives clients a good offering.”

Prior to joining Harvard House in mid-2009 as a Financial Adviser, he held diverse brokerage positions with Nedbank, Dunlop Tyres, and later took up one of the top managerial positions at MINT Private Financial Planning, Old Mutual’s high net worth personal financial planning division. His depth of experience and professionalism makes clients count on him to be a sounding board for their investment ideas and financial needs. He lists some of his best achievements as marrying his wife of over 45 years, Sue, being instrumental in the advancement of brokers-in-training, and qualifying for four overseas conventions with Old Mutual, three of which were awarded over three sequential years.

When off work, this doting grandfather of four says that he enjoys “spending time with his wife, three wonderful sons, his three truly great daughter-in-laws, and grandchildren”.

David and his wife live in Hilton.



Frans Brooks

Frans, who is a Certified Financial Planner ®, began his career in financial planning after a 36 year career as an Examiner of deceased and insolvent estates, a Trust Estates & Trust Manager, Offshore Investment Adviser and an Estate Planning Consultant within various dynamic organisations. His passion for financial planning comes from his desire to understand clients’ specific needs and putting structures in place to satisfy those needs. He brings a relaxed, approachable style and a wonderful sense of humour to his work as a financial planner.

Frans obtained a BCom (Hons) Industrial Psychology degree at the University of Pretoria, followed by a Post-Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning at the Free State University. He is now in the final stages of his LLB studies, also at the Free State University.

Frans and his family live in the Midlands.


mbMegan Byth

Megan joined the Harvard House Investment Management team in September 2015 as a Financial Adviser. She holds BSc Mathematics & Statistics and BSc Hons Mathematics degrees from the University of Johannesburg and a BCom Accounting degree from the University of South Africa.

She brings on board 13 years of extensive financial services experience working for a major bank in Johannesburg. Her previous roles span from Private Banker, Sales Manager, Campaign Manager to her last position with the bank as a Business Manager.

As a recent member of Harvard House, Megan is looking forward to an opportunity to add value to clients. She is committed to professionalism and the co-operative development of customized and practical financial advice to businesses and individuals.

She feels that her experience, continuous learning and practical application of academic knowledge gained will enable her to help clients clarify their actual financial needs and create a good, realistic balance between their emotions and their finances.

Megan lives in the Pietermaritzburg with her husband and young son.


craignCraig Niddrie

Craig holds a BCom Honors Degree in Finance. His knack for building different financial scenarios for individuals, identifying risk and assessing the outcome saw him join the Harvard House Investment team of diversified investment advisers in May 2015. A year after joining Harvard House, Craig was promoted to the position of Junior Financial Consultant.

Craig embraces the Harvard House Group’s active role in educating clients about matters concerning retirement, tax advantaged investing and estate planning.  He is committed to providing professional advice which takes into account that everyone’s life and financial situation is unique. He delights in partnering with clients on their journey to financial wellness by providing personalized services which match clients’ goals with the right financial security products and services.

His goal is to deliver professional wealth management through a tailored approach to investing, helping create value, focus and understanding.

Craig has a huge interest in the motor industry especially in Formula One racing. He is intrigued with the technicalities of the sport and its weighting on the strategic approach to competitiveness which he feels sets it apart from any other sport. He has a major love for animals and spends much time on game drives and outdoors.

Craig and his family moved to Hilton from Kimberley in 2005.


BRUCE FBruce Fannin

Bruce has over 30 years of Auditing experience. He has spent over 30 years of his career with Deloitte & Touche in various managerial roles within their many locations around the country. This included heading up the Deloitte & Touche Audit Division, Johannesburg branch, where he focussed on high growth clients.

Mid-2016 Bruce joined Harvard House in the financial services division to head up the much anticipated Johannesburg branch office planned by the Group. He aims to use his skills in market analysis, strategic investments and financial assessments to support the growth of clients’ portfolios. 

Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, and schooled at Hilton College, Bruce enjoys cricket and rugby and is an avid Sharks’ fan. He is a keen hockey player and recently represented the over 60’s SA Grandmasters’ hockey team in Newcastle, Australia.

When not on the sports field, Bruce enjoys spending time with his family, friends and his church group and having a few minutes of shut-eye on a Sunday afternoon.


robbieRobert Pool

After completing his Articles at Deloitte’s and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (SA) in 2015, Robbie joined Harvard House early in 2016 to pursue his chosen career path as a Financial Consultant.

Robbie enjoys tackling technical and complex problems to find the best solutions possible. He is passionate about making a difference, and seeks to improve and develop things wherever he operates. At Harvard House he sets out to provide a professional service but with an individualised approach towards each client. He is an organized, results-oriented professional with exceptional knowledge of financial strategies, marketing practices and client relations.

He was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg, and his home is where you will find him relaxing.


murrayMurray Smythe

Eager for a new challenge, Murray joined Harvard House in August 2016. Prior to this Murray was a general Civil Litigation Attorney, first with Austen Smith Attorneys for 5 years and then with Lynn & Main Attorneys.

Murray enjoys working with people and making a difference in their lives. He strives to provide the best service that he can. He aspires to get to the root of problems and to analyse complex problems logically in order to find a solution that is suitable to the client.

When Murray is not problem solving he enjoys spending time with his wife and family, two aspects of his life that he is very passionate about. Murray enjoys learning about different wines and coffees, cooking, listening to music and is very rarely without a book. He is a sports fan and to get the blood pumping, he plays hockey for the Olympics Men’s Hockey Club in Pietermaritzburg.

The Midlands is home for Murray. He grew up in Hilton and went to school in Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands. He confesses that this part of the world is home and he doesn't desire to live anywhere else.


Kyle ZKyle Zebert

Originally from Durban, Kyle moved to Howick to join the Harvard House team in December 2015.

Kyle went to Glenwood High School and, after matriculating, did a Bachelor of Commerce Degree majoring in Business Management through UNISA. Kyle is in the process of registering for a CFP Post-Graduate Diploma.

Kyle understands the need to build lasting relationships with clients and is looking forward to gaining the necessary knowledge and skills in order to best assist clients in making informed decisions about their finances.

Away from the office, Kyle enjoys keeping up to date with his favourite sports teams and you will often find him chatting about the latest Super Rugby and Barclays Premier League action.


Josh Joshua Strydom

Born and raised in Durban, Joshua joined Harvard House in January 2016 from Liberty,   where he worked in Insurance. He recently completed his Higher Certificate in Financial Planning and ultimately wants to become a Certified Financial Planner.

Joshua is passionate about being able to help people. He enjoys finding solutions to problems, the more complicated the problem the better.

In his spare time Joshua is a keen musician and enjoys playing his guitar. He is also learning to play the piano and violin.


Karen J


Karen Johnstone

Karen joined the Harvard House family in September 2017. She comes from an Administration Management back ground, having spent the previous 12 years at an Independent Financial Advisory Practice in Westville. Karen loves helping people and is known for remaining calm in times of pressure and stress.

She, and her family, recently relocated to Howick. They spend most of their weekends either with extended family and friends at home, or at Midmar Dam. Karen enjoys spending her free time volunteering with special needs children.
