Michael Porter

Michael completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Natal, following which he undertook a post-graduate degree at the London School of Economics, obtaining a Masters degree in Accounting & Finance. He started his career with Fleming Martin Stockbrokers in the United Kingdom as an assistant to the sales trading desk, before being transferred to their Johannesburg office to undertake economic research on the local economy.

In 1997 he joined Swiss Re (South Africa), later renamed Swiss Re Asset Management, as part of their global equity research team, to assume responsibility for the management of their equity portfolios in Southern Africa (totaling, at its peak, in excess of R3 billion.) Cross-skilling also ensured that he gained valuable experience in the fixed income and money markets. He moved to the Harvard House Group in 2004 after an organizational restructuring resulted in the local operations of Swiss Re Asset Management being moved to Switzerland. He has extensive experience in the asset management industry.


Nigel Porter

Nigel completed his CA (SA) degree at the University of Natal, and undertook articles with Deloittes in Pietermaritzburg, before setting out on his own. He is the founding partner of Porter Purbrick Chartered Accountants (established in 1971), as well as the driving force behind the establishment of the private client portfolio management business in 1973.

He has over 30 years of experience in managing investments.


Willie Pelser

Willie Pelser grew up in Frankfort in the Free State. After matriculating he obtained an M.Com Econometrics degree from the former Rand Afrikaans University in Johannesburg. Willie started his career in 1991 as an economist with the Transnet Group. He joined the Industrial Development Corporation in 1994 with responsibility for macro-economic planning and forecasting. After a short stint with BOE NatWest Securities, where he was responsible for Fixed Income research and strategy, Willie joined Swiss Re Asset Management in 1997. He formed part of the global fixed income team responsible for the management of the fixed income and money market portfolios (R2.5 billion) for the Southern Africa region and assisted in the equity process. Willie also managed portfolios for third party clients of Swiss Re. After the amalgamation of Swiss Re Asset Management's fund management activities in Zurich and New York, Willie consulted to Harvard House Investment Management and other financial institutions. He joined Real Africa Asset Management in 2005, assisting in the management of fixed income and equity portfolios. In 2006, Willie joined Harvard House Investment Management. He has 20 years of experience in the asset management industry.


Nick Rogers

Nick earned his Bachelor of Social Science in Economics and Marketing & Advertising from the University of KwaZulu Natal in Pietermaritzburg. With a strong background in management accounting and financial control, Nick has held a number of contract roles with global banks such as BNP Paribas, ABN Amro, Deutsche and six years with the Royal Bank of Scotland.

In September 2012, after 15 years in the UK, Nick joined Harvard House Group as a Portfolio Manager, responsible for managing private client's investments. Apart from the delightful three minute commute to work in the beautiful Midlands, he values being part a knowledgeable team who have a sound understanding of the dynamic nature of global and local financial markets.

He has enjoyed many rich experiences from a year stint at Sandhurst in the British Army to back-packing across the globe and appreciates the quote, "A ship is safe in harbour, but that's not what ships are for". Apart from spending quality time raising his twins with his wife, Michele, Nick delights in catching a spectacular sunrise or sitting around an open camp fire with family and friends.


Roy Lamb

Roy Lamb, his sister and parents emigrated from Zimbabwe when he was six years old. He later went on to study at University of KwaZulu Natal, Pietermaritzburg where he acquired his Bachelor of Agricultural Management degree. His passion for the dynamics of the stock market has seen him spending over fifteen years working in various roles within national firms such as Stockowners Co-op, Martin & Co Stockbrokers (now Investec Private Wealth), Old Mutual Asset Management, Investec Securities and BoE Stockbrokers.

Roy joined Harvard House Group as a Portfolio Manager in July 2012 and is responsible for portfolio and relationship management. In addition to his commitment for seeing the clients’ goals being met, Roy has a high degree of creativity to develop on-going solutions anchored by his in-depth working knowledge of investment management concepts.

Roy lives with his wife and son in the Midlands, an ideal location to pursue his outdoor passions of road cycling and occasional mountain biking.


judyJudy Dinkel

Judy Dinkel began her career as an Administrative Manager for CDC Services and held the position for a ten year tenure. In this role she was instrumental in the creation and management of the company’s office procedures, from accounting, administration, purchasing to human resources. She later joined Forsdicks (BMW) in Pinetown and served as a PA to the Dealer Principal.

In early 2008 Judy joined Harvard House Group as Investment Administrator and worked her way up to Investment Administration Manager, a position she currently holds. As an Investment Administration Manager she is responsible for the day-to-day administration of share portfolios and manages a team of administrators that support investment operations by executing, recording, verifying, and reconciling investments.

Judy enjoys road riding, mountain biking and trail running in the open air forests of the Midlands, with her staffie, Harley, in tow. She and her husband have been married for over 26 years and have a daughter who earned a teaching degree at Tukkies and now is a grade 2 teacher at Star College Pretoria and a son who works with his father in a bicycle repair workshop in Hillcrest.
